I like how in two and a half men, the younger brother (Alan), always took slick shots at his older brother (Charlie), despite being a broke simp.
To Alan, Charlie skated through life. He made jingles (because he had skills on the piano & could sing a little), and in the later seasons; he become an artist that wrote & sung children’s songs. According to how the show was written, Charlie was successful in his career & with women.
His brother was hating on him the whole time, before & after Charlie let him & his son stay. This motherfucker was a sponge. His first wife kicked him out (leaving him homeless), she took everything he had (because white men are naturally simps), he sucked at talking to women, he was weak and pathetic and his son was a meathead. He got married again in later seasons, to a 22-year-old woman who also divorced him and took all his money the following season. He went to college to become a chiropractor, & was a failure. He could have tried to use where he was at to promote his business so he could get back on his feet & get his own place, he could have also afforded a better divorce attorney, but it was better that he hated on his brother the whole time instead.
This is just a tv show, but you’d be surprised how many people have relatives like this, never mind former friends. You could look out for a relative & instead of them grinding to get on your same level or higher, they hate as if it will make their situation any better.
