Kevin Gates sold his music catalog. The court decided who gets the money before he touched a single dollar of it.
A judge ordered the sale proceeds locked into a Morgan Stanley account. The man holding the keys is Gates’ own CFO. Kevin Gates himself is barred from the account.
Read that again. His music. His asset. His sale. He can’t touch it.
Dreka walks away with $929,341.50 in child and spousal support, plus $150,000 paid directly — over a million dollars total, pulled straight out of HIS catalog sale. Then the court stacked the professionals on top: $125,000 to her attorneys, $100,000 to her accountant, $103,000 to the mediator. All of it from his bag.
And Kevin? He gets $538,798 upfront and $225,000 a month starting October. An allowance. From his own catalog.
Backdrop for the ones just tuning in: Dreka filed in July 2025 after ten years of marriage. By October she was asking for over $70,000 a month and said he stopped supporting the family back in 2021. In January, Kevin went public accusing her and her family of stealing from him through the whole marriage. Her lawyer called it “completely false and fabricated.”
Now here’s the part worth sitting with.
The court didn’t wait for the money to arrive. It built the fence first — locked the proceeds, barred the owner, and cut the checks before he had a say in any of it.
WHEN THE JUDGE SEIZES THE ASSET FIRST, THE MARRIAGE WAS ALREADY THE VERDICT.
He made the music. She gets the lump sum. He gets a monthly allowance off his own work.
The catalog sold. Everybody got paid. The only question is who paid whom.
