It was action-packed, filled with adventure, robot minions & latte shops
The movie combined the 2nd and 3rd game stories, and some other things about Sonic from other lore; like chili dogs, and a bit of fan service (like Sonic fan art). Speaking of stories from the 2nd and 3rd games, We meet Knuckles almost immediately, just like in Sonic 3.
Without giving away spoilers, I have some gripes though, 3 of them. 2 happened between the donut lord & sonic, 1 at the beginning of the movie & the 2nd towards the end, very cringe-worthy (in my opinion). I get that Sonic is young, but the dynamic between Sonic and the donut lord is somewhat of a father figure & child, but the Sonic I grew up on didn’t have that stuff, so it’s kinda weird.
The other thing I didn’t like revolves around Rachel (the big black jawn from the first movie) getting married. This isn’t a spoiler (it was in the commercials). It’s not that she’s getting married that bothers me, she was engaged to a black man, the only black man I’ve seen in either film. It’s the fact that her fiance is a black man who’s in good shape, and she isn’t. The only other black woman in the movie who’s attractive & in good shape, is married to the donut Lord, a white dude.
So it’s almost like a message from all media out of our (black people) control. like, if you’re a decent-looking black man, in good shape, & you got your shit together, you deserve a loud, overweight jawn, who also has a child from a previously failed relationship as a wife.
I would have preferred they either didn’t cast a black man in the movie OR if they did give a fiance to shawty, he also should be in the same lane; big stomach, chafing thighs, double chin, & a kid from a previously failed relationship. His race wouldn’t have mattered long as he checked all of the other boxes 🤷🏿♂️
With all of that said; Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was awesome, I’d give it an 8.50/10
