Security in Chaos: How the Uniform Taught Me Pragmatism Is Power

There are some jobs that test your patience — and your peace — more than others.

Working as a security officer, I learned that lesson firsthand.

We were stationed at a site where emotions ran high — life-or-death moments, families breaking down, people losing what they loved most.

You had to stay calm through things most people couldn’t even stomach.

And that’s where pragmatism comes in.

Because there’s no book or quote that teaches you how to walk a mother through tragedy.

There’s no “training module” for when somebody’s yelling, crying, or blaming you because you’re the only uniform in the room.

You learn to breathe.

You learn to think before you react.

You learn that not every outburst deserves a response, and not every fight is worth your peace.

I’m not perfect — I just try to do better each time.

Or as Yoda would say: “Do or do not. There is no try.”

Pragmatism isn’t coldness — it’s survival with self-control.

It’s learning to protect your spirit while the world around you falls apart.

Some people quote philosophy.

Others live it every day and don’t even realize it.

Because when you’ve stood in chaos and kept your calm — that’s not patience.

That’s power.
